AU2010 - Coconut Thai

Having tried most of the Thai restaurants, it seems to me that Coconut Thai serves the most authentic Thai cuisine in Wollongong.

Despite bearing a contemporary interior with attractive wall features (coconut trees and bamboo shoots), this is really the place in town for a taste of Thailand, …

… even with the cups used for water.

During our visit, we decided to give their specialties (from the Coconut Thai Specials) a try. First up was the Special Pork Ribs, which is a dish of deep fried marinated pork rib with garlic sauce (strongly recommended!!).

Next, we had the Garden Fish Salad, which is another deep fried dish, but this time, a whole fish with Thai style hot and sour salad. The salad tasted really nice, but is a little too spicy. Oh, beware of the fish bones too!!

Then came the Ped Ob, a dish of roasted duck with special sauce (a combination of sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce and sesame seeds), which is also strongly recommended!!

Last but not least, the yummy BBQ Squid with sweet chilli sauce.

We also ordered a huge plate of Pad Pak (Stir Fried Vegetables) with Tofu to balance up all the toxins from the roasts, BBQs and deep fried dishes.

Upon finishing our meals, we also tried their sinful Black Sticky Rice with Custard …

… and Deep Fried Mars Bar with Ice Cream (claimed to be the first of its kind in Wollongong).

Overall, I reckon the chefs did a very good job, and yes, we will definitely be back for their other specialties!!
